Pétanque Balls – Set of 3

A set of three smooth steel pétanque balls with a jack, in the classic black satin look. There are no grooves on the surface, which makes it an easy all-rounder whether you point or shoot — a good first proper set, or a dependable one for regular games.

The balls

• Carbon steel, completely smooth — no grooves
• Black satin finish that wears off gradually with play and reveals the bare steel underneath: this is normal and does not affect the ball
• Available from 71 to 76 mm in diameter and from 650 to 730 g

Choosing your diameter

Open your hand and measure the span from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your middle finger.

• 16 to 17 cm — 71 mm
• 17 to 18 cm — 72 mm
• 18 to 19 cm — 73 mm
• 19 to 20 cm — 74 mm
• 20 to 21 cm — 75 mm
• 21 to 22 cm — 76 mm

Shooters often go 1 to 2 mm larger. Not sure? 74 mm is the best-selling and most versatile size.

Choosing your weight

• Shooter — lighter, 680 to 700 g
• Middle player — 690 to 710 g
• Pointer — heavier, 700 to 720 g

If you play every position, 700 g sits in all three ranges.

Care

Carbon steel needs a little oil to stay rust-free. Wipe the balls after each game and oil them lightly — at least once a month if they are not being used. Store them somewhere dry: not in a car boot, where temperature swings cause condensation, and not in a foam-lined bag, which holds moisture against the steel.
